Homework
Homework will be assigned each Monday and will be due the
following Friday. This should allow you
as a family the flexibility to manage your home time as you wish. Your student will bring home a weekly planner
that will state what the weeks homework is.
This planner needs to be signed by a parent and returned on Friday with
homework. Our third grade team has a few
different projects through out the year that will involve some at home work. These projects will be given in advance with
ample time for your child to complete them.
If homework is not returned on Friday, the child will miss their free
time for that afternoon. If homework is
missed more than three times, I will contact the parent. IMPORTANT:
Homework is meant to practice concepts that have been taught in the classroom. I will not send homework for your child to
complete that they have not worked on prior in the classroom. I will also post each week on this blog what
the homework for the week is.

This weeks home work is a little different in that I have sent it home on Wednesday and would like it returned no later than Monday of the following week.
August 14, 2013
Dear Parents,
We had a wonderful first day together and are very excited about the school year. For our first read aloud, we are reading the book Judy Moody was in a Mood. Not a Good Mood. A Bad Mood. It is about a young girl who is just starting Third Grade. In the book her teacher, Mr. Todd, asks the students to create a “Me Collage.” So we too, are going to create “Me Collages” to support building our classroom community. Your child will draw, cut out pictures, or paste things to their collage that tells the class what makes them, them. This is where we need your help – yep, homework already! Please assist your child in finding photographs, magazine clippings, words, etc. that represent the items listed below and send them to school with this letter in the attached Ziploc bag marked with your child’s name by Monday, August 19, 2013. Try to find the first ten items listed below to be included on their collage. Then they can fill in any other items to make their collage unique. I will provide the poster board and we will create the collages here in the classroom.
Students will also have the opportunity to present their collage to the class and they will be displayed in the classroom.
Concepts that could be represented on your Me Collage:
- Your family.
- Your favorite pet or if you don’t have a favorite pet, think of a pet you would love to have.
- Your favorite foods.
- Your best friends.
- Clubs you belong to or clubs you would like to belong to.
- Sports you are involved in.
- Hobbies.
- The worst thing that ever happened to you.
- The funniest thing that ever happened to you.
- The best place you have ever visited.
- Anything that makes you, YOU!
Thank You,
Mrs. Castro
